Entertainment in the Sky!

Out of town visitors often ask me about "free shows." Well, you can enjoy a free show while you wait to dine at the Rio Suites Hotel. It's called "Masquerade," and there are 7 performances nightly. You can become a cast member for a modest fee and ride in an overhead gondola like the one shown here. Of course, if you have a fear of heights; I don't think you would enjoy it. Just a word to the wise.

I just bought this ring at my yoga place, and cannot tell what sort of stone it is. It is stamped 925 on the inside of the band, said it was from Nepal, and looks blue and green. It doesn't look like turquoise, though, because I have a lot of turquoise, and this doesn't resemble even the greenest or bluest turquoise in the least. It is smooth like jade, but much deeper green-blue than jade. It's not iridescent or anything; it's quite dull and deep. Do you have any idea from this description what it could be? Drop me an e-mail if you would like me to photograph it for you.

Hi Roonie! First of all, a "925" stamp on the interior of a band indicates Sterling Silver which is 92.5% silver and 7.5% copper.
If the stone is cut "en cabochon" your description of the colors suggest Azurmalachite which is a mix of the two minerals azurite and malachite. If the stone has blue (azurite) and green (malachite) banding, it can't much be anything else. Incidentally, I am looking at the front cover of the Gemstone and Mineral Data Book by John Sinkankas which features a color photograph on its cover. Guess what? It is Azurmalachite! Of course, to conclusively identify it I would need to test it in person. I hope this gives you a good clue to it!
